So it was a new week, with a new round of games and new group of groups.  The first game up was Catch My Drift.  There was an obvious that people knew their slanguage.  Or at least were pretty astute when it came to guessing.  Although it seemed to some teams that every time they thought the answer would somehow relate to the criminal justice system it didn’t, and vice versa.  The Stealers did manage to get half of a point for saying that “seed” in fact meant “sperm”.  I guess Biblical Slang counts too.  Charlie’s Angels – 1 did make a godd showing but ended up in last.  Team JR managed to get ahead of The Stealers 5 to 4 1/2, but the first round laurels went to Team Short Bus, whose name I assume was ironic.  Like that movie, Short Bus, which I could only make it through the first five minutes of.

The second round was a new game called Squeeze Play.  Several of the teams felt confident that they were going to sweep

the whole round easily.  That is until the Chester A. Arthur question.  Apparently people don’t know their presidents as well as their fast food slogans.  Although, employees of Bar Louie were obviously ineligible of winning, that didn’t mean they couldn’t play, and so they fielded their own team, called Ram Rod which began playing in this round scoring a respectable 17 points.  Cisco also joined the fray halfway through the round — in time score 6 points.  Team JR got 14 points this round, but The Stealers and Team Short Bus both did manage to get perfect scores of 18 points apiece.  A tie-breaker question was asked, and while Team Short Bus did manage to guess slightly closer to the correct answer, The Stealers claimed that The Price Is Right rules applied and they should win because they didn’t guess over the actual number.  To prevent rivalry from turning into animosity I declared that everyone was a winner.  In their hearts.  Yes, I seriously said that.

Round three featured the popular party game Outburst as its theme.  There were several good guesses and many more obscene ones on some the questions.  The knowledge that

some of the teams demonstrated in terms of illegal drug use was frightening; especially considering how many law enforcement officers were in the audience.  Team JR did manage to score an addition three points this round before taking off.  Cisco claimed another 14 points catapulting them into fourth place.  The Stealers stole another 17 points giving them second place for the night.  Despite knowing that they couldn’t take home any of the prizes, Ram Rod racked up an impressive 20 points and third place overall.  They also tied with Team Short Bus for first place in Round Three.  This time there was no debate and Ram Rod won the round with a bonus question about the British version of Monopoly fair and square.  This did not bother the mighty Team Short Bus however, who still managed to take the overall win for the night.  But more importantly were the friendships made.  And then broken.  And then made again. 

Team Cisco here insisted I wait until his lady friend returned from the restroom so that the picture would look beautiful. He's a smooth talker, that Cisco.

To say it was a lively bunch at Bar Louie this week would be an understatement.  I was the guest “fill-in” host and I couldn’t have had a better lineup of trivia gamers!  Pieces of Assets in particular was chompin’ at the bit!  When I asked them if they came to play, they said “No!  We came to win!”  I knew right then it was going to be a great night.  In the first round,  Team Rose, High Fructose Corn Syrup and  Team Rhody all tied for second place with Baker and  Show me your… trailing close behind.  But to no surprise it was the dynamic duo of Pieces of  Assets won the first round!

The second round saw the disappearance of two teams, Baby Bamboo and Team Rose.  But a new team, Team Murray joined the fun and definitely came to play.   So with six teams competing, round two soon turned very competitive!  There was a 3 way tie for second and the other two teams were close behind, but it was Baker who came away with the win.  After round two we played our Bonus Beer Question and it was the smack-talkin’ duo of Pieces of Assets who won the free round of beers (and they were not shy about celebrating!)

Round three saw the disappearance of Team Murray, but the remaining five teams were in rare form with plenty of hootin’ & hollerin’ and high fives all the way around!  The answers given to me in round three were crazy!  A really fun (and inventive) crowd!  It was High Fructose Corn Syrup who took round three with 21 points with all teams trailing very close behind.

After all was said and done it was High Fructose Corn Syrup who won Grand Prize for the night, a $25 gift certificate for Bar Louie.  It was a great night!  A lot of laughs and I’m sure all of these teams will be back to try their hand at trivia next week!  You be sure to come out too! – Reverend Guy Marvel

Rox in ya head may have had the Rockies game on their mind, but had some had enough left-over brain power to score some points as well.

This is the spot where the elusive T. Rose was last seen. Like the cavalry, they rode to the rescue in the last minute and were gone before I could get the camera working properly.

It was the first night for us at the Bar Louie location in lovely, scenic Northfield Shopping Centre in the Stapleton district.  It was also a first night for me as a host.  Luckily the night ran smoothly, with just a minimum of technical glitches and equipment failures.

Now I want you all to think back to your days watching Sesame Street and sing along with me … “One of these things is not like the other.”   That’s right the first round was Imposter.  While almost all the teams were stumped by the shark question, no one quite jumped.  There were several creative answers and explanations from The A-Team and Krobota, but the winners of the first round were clearly Cerebral Hemorrhage.

Round Two featured Malarky, and again the fountain of entertaining if not entirely accurate answers poured in.  Name = Larry came into their own in this round, often offering answers that really should’ve been correct and earning a number of highly valued “style points”.   Despite a commanding lead at the half,  Cerebral Hemorrhage had to go to bad early, but not before leaving several answer sheets with random answers written on them in the vain hope that somehow they just might match up to some of the questions they were about to miss.  Needless to say, none of them did.  Rox in Ya Head and Kerbert Xela, were in the lead by the end of this round.

While many teams seemed to flounder when faced with imponderables and imposters, everyone seemed to know what everyone else was thinking; as Round Three, the Family Feud round proved.  While Rox in Ya Head, Name=Larry, and Kerbert Xela continued to add to their scores, a dark horse emerged in the form of T. Rose.  Not having been there for the previous two rounds, T. Rose made up for lost time by guessing five or six answers for each Family Feud question giving them 27 points and luanching them into first by the end of the evening.

Name=Larry came in second with Rox in Ya Head and Kerbert Xela tied for third.  Despite leaving halfway through, Cerebral Hemorrhage managed to stay competeive at fifth with Drunken Smurfs behind by just one point.  Following them were (in order) Krobota, The A-Team, Javonnie, Todd, and Team Michael.  Hopefully some of these teams will be prepared for next week, maybe even taking a nap in the afternoon to prepare for the long hard work fun that is MindGamesLive.

Yes, the third night now and NO TECHNICAL PROBLEMS.  Amazing a smooth and steady night.

First round as “Four Play” and was ultra close.  Skytek had to win it away from It Took 2 Rounds to Come Up with a Name in a tie-break.  We Got Ditched So Mindy Could Get Laid were only 1/2 point behind and Team Karlee 1/2 point behind them.  And easy striking distance for the remaining teams; Regalia and Bar Louie Fans.

Mindy Got Laid had to take off (hooking back up with Mindy?), but The Cool Kids and Suite 200 joined the fray.

Round 2 was Balderdash and it was yet another tie-break.  This time between Regalia and Suite 200, who won.  Skytek was only one point off the lead and in great position for top points and the Rockies tickets, but they disbanded after round 2.

The Cool Kids won the Bonus Beer Question, which was good ’cause they just weren’t doing too well on everything else.

2 Rounds 4 a Name took off, but Twinkies and 2 Dudes threw their hat into the ring.

So heading into final round, with Skytek out of the picture, Regalia had a good lead with Team Karlee some distance behind, and Suite 200 determined to make a play even though they missed round 1.

No tie-break was needed for round 3 – YAY! – as Suite 200 took the round.  There were some big points scored, so much so that the lead that Regalia had was cut down by Team Karlee and they ended up with top points for the night and Rockies tickets!

Good to see so many winners and hoping to see another good week next week… with no technical glitches!

We Don't Need No Stinking 'Roids - steroids or androids?

We’ll we started off in great form.  Only our second night at Bar Louie in Westminster and we had 11 good size teams out of the gate.

And it was a close round too.  Baker won round 1 by 1/2 point with Team Parents, We Don’t Need No Stinking ‘Roids, Magnificent Bastards, and Arizona all within 1 point.

But the darn movie theater pulled away Harris, Arizona, Team 2 and Suzie.

Another close round for 2. This time we tied between Baker and Appetizers Anonymous.  with Appetizers pulling off the win with a very tough tie-break question.

And that’s when the wheels fell off the bus.  A speaker problem cropped up late in round 2 and at the start of round 2, we had completely lost them – no mike, no music.  Yikes!

And then video problems which ultimately was my fault.  Drats.

So with delays and technical problems we lost Magnicent Bastard right after winning the Bonus Beer Question. And FTW and Team Parents left as well even though they had a shot at some more prizes.

Still the die-hards were ready to duke it out and, although Appetizers won round 3, top point overall were only separated by only 3.5 points.

Appetizers beat out Baker by 1 point.  AArrrgghh! and ‘Roids were only 2.5 points behind them.  Don’t know how Flashy Girls would have done because they had to go since they had youngish kids in tow.  But you’ll be back, right Girls!  You were a lotta fun!

So a few more kinks to work out but it seems like we are on the road to Big Thursday Nights at Bar Louie.

Papas BZs - and you ladies were gettin BZ with the third round!

Pretty darn good for the kick off of Mind Games Live.  We had 10 teams from the start, and some teams were calling in reinforcements!

And a different team won all 4 prizes.

Round 1 featured the game, Imposter, and both Baker and Google This showed they were the real deal.  In a tie-break, Google won, and to cap it off, they won the first BBQ (Bonus Beer Question)… thanks to Beer Guy for making the BBQ’s happen.

Some teams didn’t know about us and so weren’t prepared to stay having movies and such to run off to.  So we lost Boob-Yah, The Beavertons, Nutz to Butz, Jerski, and Eldo 4. Will we see you next week now that you have warning?… and bring more friends!

Veteran’s Painting joined in the fray.  But the hardcore teams were growing so I think we ended with as many players as we started with!

Round 2 featured Malarky.  And that went handily to Like A Boss.  And Boss and Veteran’s Painting shared beers for the 2nd BBQ.

So with 6 very strong teams, we headed into round 3, which featured Family Feud. And it was Papas BZs who forged ahead, and put them in contention for top points for the evening but they were edged out by 1 point by Keith’s Fan Club who had come in 2nd in every single round… so they were due.

So recap.  First night, lots of prizes, lots of beer, lots of different winners, lots of games and fun.  Sounds like a winning recipe to me.
